I heard that the Senate is considering revisiting Ningi's suspension. Has the suspension period been reduced?

It is possible that the Senate will recall Senator Ningi after the recess. Ningi was suspended by his colleagues on March 12 over the 2024 budget padding allegation. It seems the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio is under serious pressure to convince his colleagues to recall him. For now, there is no official Statement from the Senate, although, while fielding questions from reporters on arrival from the inter-parliamentary Union meeting in Geneva, Senator Akpabio stated that the issue would soon be resolved like a family affairs.

Was there truly a padded budget or was he just confused about the figures he was seeing?

@billchi4real I think there could be an element of truth in what Ningi was saying, but not to the extent he mentioned.

@billchi4real1. NASS has the leverage to increase or reduce the budget size sent by the executive therefore what is referred to as "padding" is ordinarily part of the job of their job.
2. I think one of the things Sen. Ningi was against was the lump sum amounts that is captured for Institutions on first line charge. Eg.the details of NASS budget is not broken down into details but just the total amount is reflected same with INEC, TETFUND, Judiciary etc. This is not the first time NASS passess budgets like that. I think it's been so for more than 3 years.
The amount of 2 point somthing trillion he said was padded is the exact amount of money that acrues to the bodies on first line charge. As I said, their detailed line items were not provided.
Sen. Olamilekun's explanation when they were considering Sen. Ningi's suspension explained a whole lot.

Wow. The media really has a lot do do to be able to uncover these manipulations and cleans the system.
