The year and two-month unbeaten streak for Liverpool at Anfield came to a halt courtesy of Italian underdogs Atalanta in the Europa League quarterfinal.

Despite both teams having early chances in the first half, it was Harvey Elliot who nearly broke the deadlock for Liverpool with a left-footed strike that struck both the crossbar and upright simultaneously.

In the 37th minute former West Ham flop, Scammaca finished off a cross from inside the box which Liverpool goalkeeper, Kelleher let under his arms, a questionable mistake for the young understudy to number one, Allison.

In the second half, Scammaca was at it again this time arriving to finish a beautiful cross in the box after he had been left completely unmarked by the Liverpool defenders.

Mo Salah thought he got one for his side after finishing a lovely through ball from Robertson in the box, only to be denied by the offside flag.

Minutes later, Atalanta completed the rout as Pasalic reacted quickest to Kelleher’s spilled save, slotting into an empty net. It was a forgettable night for the Reds as they now face a daunting task in the reverse fixture in Italy.
