Minneapolis’ Police Chief, Medaria Arradondo says the community can “begin to heal,” following the guilty verdict pronounced against former officer Derek Chauvin, for murdering George Floyd.
“I want to acknowledge and thank the jurors on this case for their immense responsibility and honorable civic duty,” Arradondo said in a statement on Tuesday.
On the official Twitter page, @MinneapolisPD, Arradondo said; ”this past year has been difficult and challenging yet they (the police) have continued to show up and serve our community with the respect and dignity they deserve.
“We recognize that our community is hurting, and hearts are heavy with many emotions. However, I have hope.”

The police boss also testified in the trial that Chauvin’s use of force against George Floyd had exceeded the guidelines of police training said he respected the decision of the jury.
Derek Chauvin, 45, a former American police officer had been charged with murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis, Minnesota on May 25, 2020 after he placed his knee on Floyd’s neck while he pleaded, “I can’t breathe.”
A jury in Minnesota found Chauvin guilty on a three count charge of: second-degree unintentional murder, third-degree murder, and second-degree manslaughter on Tuesday. Afterwards he was led out of the courtroom in handcuffs. He can be sentenced for up to 40 years in prison.
