Nigerian Army Chief Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya

The Nigerian Army Chief Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya has urged troops to show utmost commitment in carrying out their assigned tasks, to decisively put an end to banditry in the North West of the country.

The Army Chief stated this in Sokoto while addressing soldiers at Giginya barracks as part of activities marking the COAS’ operational visit to 8 Division, Nigerian Army (NA).

A statement by the Director, Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu said the COAS, while making this charge on the commitment of the troops, promised to give welfare of the soldiers a pride of place.

Caution
General Yahaya cautioned troops to avoid any act of misconduct that could jeopardise ongoing operations, across the country. He said that disciplinary actions would be taken against anyone found on the wrong side of the law and of questionable character.

While in Sokoto state, General Yahaya also commissioned twenty blocks of accommodation for soldiers in Giginya Barracks on Wednesday 20 October 2021.

The blocks, which have the capacity to accommodate 120 families, is to alleviate the accommodation challenges faced by personnel in the barracks,” he said.

The COAS also visited troops deployed at Forward Operating Base, Anka, Zamfara State, where he received briefings on operation Dukan Gudum I and III, recently conducted.

Clear bandits’ enclaves
He urged the troops to maintain cordial relationship with the members of their host communities, in order to elicit goodwill . He equally charged them to intensify anti banditry operations to clear bandits’ enclaves within their area of operations.

General Yahaya also urged them not to relent in their effort to synergise with other security agencies to restore peace in their areas of deployment while assuring the troops that the Nigerian Army was working towards mitigating some of the challenges affecting the conduct of anti banditry operations.

The COAS enjoined the troops to ensure proper handling and regular maintenance of their equipment.
