The Nigerian House of Representatives will on Wednesday, begin deliberation on the 2022 Budget Bill as part of the consideration process for the bill laid before the joint session of the National Assembly on Thursday, last week.
The House fixed Wednesday for lawmakers to give their inputs on the nation’s financial document.
Announcing the decision at the plenary, the Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila said; ”the House would then suspend the plenary to allow all the Appropriation Sub-Committees to engage the government’s Ministries, Departments, and Agencies on the budget.”
He said; “We are going to distribute copies of President Muhammadu Buhari’s letter and budget to lawmakers…Members who are interested in the debate on the budget as presented, the merits and demerits, and the general principles of the Budget as presented by Mr. President, please send your names to the clerk. We will be having the debate for two days, Wednesday and Thursday after which we will suspend plenary for work to start on the budget, the budget defense. The timetable will be released to the committees by tomorrow (Wednesday).”
Mr. Gbajabiamila reiterated the House’s commitment to consider the budget on time, directing all members wishing to contribute to the debate on the bill to register with the clerk of the House for that purpose.
