Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has donated N100 million to support victims of the tragic tanker explosion at Dikko Junction in Niger State.
The incident, which occurred on Saturday, January 18, 2025, claimed over 100 lives.
Mrs Tinubu announced the donation during a condolence visit to Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago in Minna, expressing deep sorrow over the devastating incident.
She stated that “the scale of the tragedy necessitated her visit, as families continue to mourn their loved ones and struggle to rebuild their lives.”
Mrs Tinubu commended Governor Bago for his swift intervention and ongoing efforts to rehabilitate affected families.
She said that “the donation would provide direct financial relief to 70 families through the Governor’s wife, with each receiving N1 million to assist with resettlement, food, and other essential needs.”
In his response, Governor Bago expressed gratitude to the First Lady for her compassion and generosity, acknowledging her presence as “a source of comfort to the grieving families.”
He also highlighted other recent tragedies in the state, including the dynamite explosion in Mashegu and the collapsed mines in Shiroro Local Government, emphasizing the urgent need for continued support and intervention.
The First Lady’s visit and donation reinforce the Nigerian government’s commitment to supporting disaster victims and easing the suffering of affected communities.
