After a disappointing exit from Europe in midweek, Wembley was the next stop for Pep Guardiola’s Mancity as they took on Chelsea in the semifinal of the FA cup.
A cagey affair in the first half as both sides mostly tried to cancel each other out and deprive progression of the ball through intense high pressure and tackles.
Resilient defending and last ditch tackles, resulted in scarcity of chances as Foden rounded the Chelsea goalkeeper, Petrovic only to be denied by defender, Cucurella who was well positioned in goal.
The best chance of the half fell to former City man, Cole Palmer whose side footed shot in the box,forced an outstretched save from Ortega in the City goal.
Nicholas Jackson connected with a through ball for a one on one chance but his low driven shot was well saved as the second half began to show promise.
Hitting in similar fashion to Palmer’s strike in the first half, Foden forced a double handed save from Petrovic as the stalemate dragged on.
City finally went ahead in the 84th minute when De Bruyne’s cross was deflected to an unmarked Bernado silva, who slotted in to send the reigning FA cup champions to another final in Wembley for the second year running.
