Fresh from winning the much coveted Bundesliga title, Bayer Leverkusen travelled to the Olympic stadium to take on West Ham in the second leg tie of the Europa League quarter final.
Different from the one sided affair of the first leg, both teams came at each other fairly as Tella forced an early save from Fabianski with his effort from range.
Antonio gave West Ham an early lead when he connected with Bowen’s cross from deep to put his header ahead of on rushing Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper, Kovar.
Pressing high and with intensity, the Hammers created more chances, but Kovar was equal to the task, keeping out Antonio’s header and Mohammed Kudus shot respectively.
Bowen came close to doubling the lead but once again Kovar was called into action, this time improvising with his legs to keep out the English International.
Despite the West Ham barrage, Leverkusen found an equalizer in the 88th minute, when Frimpong’s left footed shot deflected off a defender to draw the game level and send Leverkusen to the semi final.
The draw meant that Xabi Alonso’s side are now 44 games unbeaten as their hunt for a treble winning campaign continues.
