The minority leaders of the House of Representatives, representing all opposition parties, disowned 60 lawmakers who, on Monday, demanded the resignation of the Peoples Democratic Party’s acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, over alleged anti-party activities.
These 60 parliamentarians, under the banner of the Coalition of Opposition Lawmakers, issued their ultimatum in Abuja on Monday, threatening to leave the PDP if Damagum does not step down to allow for the appointment of a new acting chairman from the North Central, the region of the suspended National Chairman of the party, Senator Iyorchia Ayu.
In response, Kingsley Chinda, Ali Madaki, Ali Isah, and George Ozodinobi, minority leaders, issued a joint statement on Tuesday, asserting that the parliament does not recognize the coalition led by Ikenga Ugochinyere.
The statement emphasized, “We unequivocally state that the minority caucus and the PDP caucus distance themselves from the said press statement.”
The parliament does not recognize the coalition of lawmakers led by Ikenga Ugochinyere, and both caucuses strongly condemn the group’s unreasonable actions and the disrespectful language they have used.

It should be noted that such a coalition has no standing in parliament, and their demands do not reflect the views of the minority parties.
These lawmakers should refrain from spreading further misinformation to the public and should conduct themselves with more integrity.”
Chinda’s absence from Monday’s briefing, as a recognized ally of the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, who is currently engaged in a power struggle with Governor Siminalaiye Fubara for control of Rivers State, suggests that the discord is still ongoing.
