The Chairman of ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and President of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended his felicitations to the President elect of Senegal, Mr. Bassirou Diomaye Faye on his election as the President of the Republic of Senegal.

In a statement signed by his Spokesperson, Ajuri Ngelale, President Tinubu noted that President-elect, Faye emerged with a great promise and an impressive record, thereby wishing him success as he leads the people of Senegal.

Felicitating outgoing President Macky Sall, for overseeing an election “that has been widely adjudged peaceful and transparent,” President Tinubu affirmed that the successful conduct of the Senegal election is a boost to the sub-regional organisation in its efforts to promote peace and constitutional order, as well as strengthen ties among member states.

President Tinubu further stated that “the success of the presidential election in Senegal and the successful conduct of the general election held in Liberia a few months ago have affirmed his conviction that the origin of democracy is established in West Africa.”

The Nigerian Leader further said that this would only grow stronger through good governance, justice, and fairness to all.

The ECOWAS Chair also congratulated the people of Senegal and assured them of Nigeria’s support.

Millions of Senegalese nationals took part in a peaceful vote on Sunday, where Mr. Bassirou Diomaye Faye won the race, defeating the incumbent, Macky Sall.

Bassirou Diomaye Faye, a Senegalese politician and a former tax inspector was born in 1980, becoming West Africa’s youngest democratically elected President in the process.
