The approval of the yacht ‘s inclusion in the budget on Thursday has ignited criticism from Nigerians.
They questioned the government’s decision to purchase it for the president, given the country’s challenging economic conditions.
However, the President’s Special Adviser on Information & Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, issued a statement;
He clarified that the yacht is, in fact, a naval vessel.
The Yacht is not for the President’s personal use.
It is equipped with specialized security features and designed for high-profile operational inspections,
What was referred to as “presidential yacht” in the budget is an Operational Naval boat with advanced security features.
He conveyed this in a statement titled “The Facts on the Naval Boat in 2023 Supplementary Budget.”
The previous administration commissioned the naval boat;
President Tinubu is following the principle of government continuity, acknowledging both assets and liabilities from prior governments.

The Chief of Naval Staff submitted the payment request for this boat to the Ministry of Defence as part of his obligations.
The President approved N62 billion out of the total amount requested, which exceeded N200 billion.
