The Northern Caucus in Nigeria’s House of Representatives has debunked reports that it is planning to impeach the Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila.
In a joint Press briefing by the leadership of the caucus, they expressed disappointment at a false publication being circulated that there are plans to impeach the Speaker.
The Chairman of the Northern Caucus of the House of Representatives, Sarki Adar said that it was unfortunate for anyone to be peddling rumours that northern legislators were plotting to impeach the speaker.
He said; “Today is a sad day. At a time when we should be looking at how to unify this country to move forward and to provide good leadership in this country, we are being dragged down by agents of destruction and stabilisation.”
Adar said that it was unfortunate that people go out of their way to peddle fake news and try to paint Northern legislators in a bad light.
He said that it was a well known fact that the Speaker enjoys the cooperation of all members.
Also the Majority Leader, Ado Doguwa, said that there was never a time any meeting was held to impeach the speaker.
He described the issue as “malicious.”
Similarly, the Minority Leader, Ndudi Elumelu said that defending the issue out there was a complete waste of time.
The Chairman House Committee on Media and Publicity, Benjamin Kanu, used the opportunity to commend members of the House of Representatives Press Corps for staying away from publishing falsehood.
