President Muhammadu Buhari on Saturday evening, returned to the nation’s capital Abuja, after attending the extra-ordinary summit of the Authority of Heads of State and government of the African Union AU in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea.
The President, who ariived the country through the presidential wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe international airport Abuja, was received by his Chief of Staff, Professor Ibrahim Gambari and heads of security agencies.
The Nigerian leader had at the two-day summit, called on his African counterparts to respect the rights of citizens to elect their leaders without any form of imposition.
He also admonished his colleagues to desist from elongating their tenures; rather, they should respect the constitutions of their country by quitting office at the expiration of their constitutionally stipulated tenure.
Nigeria also endorsed the introduction of an African standby force to tackle cases of terrorism and other forms of insecurity trouble countries in the continent.
