The Controller General of the Federal Fire Service, Dr. Liman Ibrahim Alhaji, recently stated that Nigeria has no firefighting policy after 100 years of existence of the fire service agency in the country.

He states that he paid a courtesy visit to the Niger State Governor, Abubakar Sani Bello, in his Government House, in Minna.

He affirmed that he was in the state for a retreat that was aimed at developing documents on Fire Policy, National Fire Safety Code, Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), and Discipline Regulation for Federal Fire Service.

The governor called for the establishment of the Federal Fire Service in critical facilities of the federal government across the country.

He noted that the presence of fully equipped and properly trained federal fire service fighters in critical areas particularly petrol depots would be of great help in case of emergencies.
