A flyover under construction in Kangemi area in Nairobi county has collapsed.
The flyover has been reported to have collapsed a few minutes after 6 pm an action which has left worries among the area people.
According to a statement by the Kenya National Highways Authority, the workers who were part of the construction were all accounted for.
However, the number of other victims who may be trapped under it remains unknown.
The construction of the Kangemi flyover, on Wiayaki Way has been ongoing for several months.
As at the time of publishing this piece, four people had been rescued with one of them having sustained serious injuries.
Several others remain trapped under the collapsed structure as families await the fate of their loved ones.
Most of those who are buried under the mound are traders who were selling merchandise next to the structure.
An official statement from the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) indicates that all employees who were part of the construction team have been accounted for.
“KeNHA regrets this unfortunate incident and is keen to ensure that safety is a priority in all road projects,” read part of the statement.
As rescue efforts continue, Kenyans have taken to social media to express their disappointment in KeNHA over what they believe is a lack of seriousness on matters of safety.
