The Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has announced a 25% reduction in the tuition fees payable by students of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomosho.
Governor Makinde assured them that the reduction would cut across all students irrespective of their status.
He made the announcement when he paid an unscheduled visit to the institution.
The Governor thanked the students for according him a warm reception despite the impromptu nature of his visit, noting that he should have returned to show his appreciation after the 2019 election but did not want to until he had fulfilled the promise of securing the sole ownership of LAUTECH for Oyo State.
Governor Makinde said: “I am glad to be back among you. I am still coming back to spend the night here and we will really celebrate then but I can leave you with a parting gift for today. Let me tell you, the LAUTECH fee is still the lowest in the entire Southwest.
“Having said that, I will reduce your school fees across board, whether indigenes or non-indigenes, even for new students. There will be a reduction of 25 percent across the board.”
Electioneering campaign
He explained that part of his electioneering campaign was to fix the Under-G/Stadium road with street lights, to prevent students and residents from being molested, robbed and killed by miscreants.
The Governor stressed that the construction of the road had been completed with the street lights fixed and is now being used by residents and students.
He stated that ”part of the reasons for securing the sole ownership of LAUTECH is to prevent delay in academic programmes. and no longer would a four-year programme in LAUTECH be turned to an eight-year programme again.”
Governor Makinde equally spoke at the commissioning of the High Dependency Unit of the LAUTECH Teaching Hospital, promising that his administration would construct a befitting flyover in Ogbomoso.
He also reassured them that his administration would pay the five month salary arrears of the re-engaged 170 staff of the teaching hospital who were relieved of their employment by the previous administration.
