The Federal Government has inaugurated a Multi-Sectoral Committee for the Home-Grown School Feeding Programme for proper coordination to achieve its objective of reducing poverty and hunger.
The committee members were drawn from the Ministry of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Ministry of Health, Education, Agriculture and Rural Planning and Ministry of Women Affairs.
Others are the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism, Industry Trade and Investment, Water Resources, National Bureau of Statistics and the Universal Basic Education Commission.
At the inauguration in Abuja, the Minster of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development Hajiya Sadiya Umar-Farouq explained that it was imperative to bring the Ministries and Agencies together to work as each would play a critical to promote inclusive and equitable learning opportunities, food security and employment to combat poverty and hunger.

Represented by the National Coordinator, National Social Investment Programme, NSIP Dr Umar Bindir, the Minster urged the committee to synergies and design policies through the value chain for the overall development of the nation.
The Technical Assistant to the Minister on National Home Groom School Feeding Programee, Aisha Digil reiterated that the programme was designed for public primary school pupils in primary one to three across the states of the country to help improve school enrollment, nutritional status of benefiting students and also boost local economy.
She added that the multi-sectoral approach would help in better implementation and planning of the scheme to enable government fully achieve its objective of helping the vulnerable in the society.
