Members of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) have on Monday morning gathered in Kaduna to protest the recent sack of civil servants at the state and local governments by the state government.
Joining in the protest are Aviation workers under the aegis of the National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE), Schools, banks, electricity supply, train station and several other institutions have shut down in the state.
The Kaduna State Government had alerted that the union had mobilised a mob to disrupt peace during the ongoing five-day warning strike called by the union.
In a swift reaction, the State NLC Chairman, Ayuba Suleiman, through a statement assured workers and the general public of their commitment to maintaining peace.
“It is not in the character of Labour to indulge in such uncivilised manner,” he said, noting that only politicians use thugs to advance their cause.

Suleiman said; “We are calling the attention of the general public to the alleged planned mobilisation of thugs by the State Government to discredit our peaceful protest of tomorrow
“Hence, we advocate that the people of Kaduna State should be vigilant and stand against this plan.”
As early as 8am, workers have gathered at the state office of NLC carrying placards with various captions against the state government.
The State NLC President, Comrade Ayuba Wabba, who is leading the protest has declared that there “is no retreat and no surrender,” until the state Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai reverses the sack of workers and also pay those who have been sacked about four years ago.
